March 12, 2017 - Tech Institute's Work Featured at SXSW!

On March 11-13, the Tech Institute joined DC Mayor Muriel Bowser at the SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas to highlight our work on inclusive innovation.

The Tech Institute launched BEACON: The DC Women Founders' Initiative last fall as a grassroots campaign to make Washington DC the most influential and supportive city in the United States for diverse women entrepreneurs.  With support from Google, the DC Mayor's Office, and a board of nine community leaders drawn from the entrepreneurship, technology, and public policy sectors, BEACON is creating new opportunities and resources for women entrepreneurs to thrive.

Our announcement at SXSW highlighted two recent BEACON projects: the launch of a new community website to provide a platform and organize resources for women entrepreneurs; and a grant program to support new DC-based initiatives that provide meaningful support for diverse women entrepreneurs.

Both programs grew out of a series of community roundtables that the Tech Institute and BEACON have co-hosted over the past several months to gather community feedback on ways to measurably improve the DC entrepreneurship community.
